The Monaghan goalkeeper is part of a 16 man shortlist that will head stateside in the coming weeks

Rory Beggan insists he’s taking part in the NFL’s International Player Pathway with the express intention of gaining an NFL contract. Along with Down’s Charlie Smyth, Wicklow’s Mark Jackson and ex-Connacht rugby full-back Darragh Leader, they will begin training in Florida this month. From there they’ll aim to impress scouts at the NFL Combine in March. All four are trying out as kickers and punters. Also on the 16-man shortlist is Wales rugby winger, Louis Rees-Zammit.
