Carrickmacross reached the Ulster JHC semi-finals following a 2-23 to 3-16 victory over Ballela after extra time at Clones.
Aidan Slevin’s men led 0-9 to 0-7 at half-time and it ended 2-13 to 0-19 at the end of normal time before a superior extra-time display saw the Monaghan outfit emerge victorious.
The sides were tied at four points each at the first water break before points from Ryan McCusker and Noel Burns saw Ballela move two points clear on 23 minutes.
A subsequent brace from Luke McKenna restored parity before Ballela opened up a two-point gap at half-time after grabbing three of the next four scores.
Ballela began the second half impressively and a brace of points from Malachy Magee levelled the scoreboard four minutes into the second half.
Magee continued to display attacking ruthlessness and two goals in the space of three minutes helped Ballela moved five points clear on 43 minutes.
Carrickmacross replied with three successive points but still found themselves two points down at the three-quarter mark.
Carrickmacross subsequently drew level with six minutes remaining before both teams traded three points each resulting in extra time.
A Niall Bermingham goal four minutes into extra time moved Carrickmacross two points clear and they held on to lead by the same margin at the halfway stage.
Five minutes into the second period, a Luke McKenna free gave Carrickmacross a five-point buffer before a Jonathan McClusker goal made it a two-point game with four minutes left.
Michael Maguire replied with a goal for Carrickmacross in the second minute of injury time as the Monaghan champions held on for a four-point victory.
