Defending champions Gowna look to make two-in-a-row

Gowna boss Fintan Reilly believes his side need to repeat the performance against Crosserlough to land the Cavan title.

Gowna advanced to the Cavan senior final after a 1-18 to 0-14 semi-final victory, however it was the second-half performance which saw them home.

The defending champions trailed nine points to eight at half-time. Conor Madden’s goal early in the second-half propelling Gowna back to the county final.

“Yeah it was a proud moment” explained Gowna manager Fintan Reilly. “And while there’s people out here and everyone is happy”.

“We knew this was in us! Unfortunately this team got very little respect from people around the place!” declared Reilly. “We were wrote off coming in here, this team is an unbelievable team”.

“We know we have to get back to work and we know we will have to produce the same performance again to win the title!”

Reilly went on, “We know Kingscourt are waiting for us".

While, the score-board read in glowing terms for Gowna, Reilly was quick to admit, they took some time to settle.

“I knew, once we got to grips and we got moving, we would get scores in the forward line which we did”.

“The game was in the melting pot and to be fair Ronan Bannon pulled off an unbelievable save after about 20 minutes, it might have kept us in the game”.

“We have the players and what’s more, we have the squad. It all boils down to the panel we have” explained Reilly.

Donohoe stars in victory

With, Ryan Donohoe excelling at centre-field and Tiernan Madden (0-3) and Cian Madden (0-2) seeing Gowna home. However, the Gowna was reserving praise for his players.

“Ryan was excellent” declared Reilly. “Ryan would be the first to admit it himself, He got a lot of help but he kicked 45’s”.

“We have talented players all over” the pitch. “They all stood, this is about a group in Gowna not about individuals” added Reilly.

Gowna will face Kingscourt stars in the Cavan senior final on Sunday October 22nd at 4pm in Kingspan Breffni.
