Westmeath had too much for Cavan scoring a six point win TEG Cusack Park in Mullingar.
The result saw Westmeath advance to the TG4 All-Ireland intermediate championship quarter-final after the 2-12 to 2-6.
Indeed, Cavan took the lead with just minutes on the clock a lead they wouldn’t lose. Meadbh Monaghan (Westmeath) and Sinead Levingstone (Cavan) traded pointed before Westmeath then edged two points ahead.
Cavan keeper Evelyn Baugh saved Leanne Slevin’s 13th minute penalty. Vicky Carr found the Cavan net minutes later.
Weastmeath extended their lead to eight points four minutes before half-time. Whereas, a Levingstone 28th minute free was Cavan’s first score in 25 minutes.
Ally Cahill landed a Cavan goal just before half-time as Westmeath led 1-6 to 1-2 at the break.
Two minutes into the second-half, Westmeath were ahead by seven. Monaghan setting up Rachel Dillon who fired to the net.
The visitors replied with a Levingstone free. However, Westmeath went nine points clear on 43 minutes through Karen Hegarty, Anna Jones and Carr.
Substitute Rebecca McLoughlin (free) and Zara Fay kicked over much needed points for the visitors. With Cahill scoring a late goal.
However, Tracey Dillon finished the scoring for Westmeath in the 60th minute as Westmeath won out by six points.
