The long Monaghan stay in the top flight over the national league came to an end on Saturday night.
Tyrone scored a three point win in Healy Park, 2-13 to 1-19 to send Monaghan down to division two.
Cathal McShane, Darragh Canavan and Kieran McGeary sent over points without reply as Tyrone lead by three points on four minutes.
The Farney land a shock goal
In response, Monaghan found the net with a sweeping move. Where, Jack McCarron finished to the back of the net. Aodh Donaghy responded from the restart with Darren McCurry adding a fifth Tyrone point on 10 minutes.
Conor McCarthy sent over Monaghan's first point of the day on 11 minutes as the farney played into the wind.
Ben Cullen used the wind to send over a sixth Tyrone point three minutes later. McCurry and Conor McManus exchanged points. Darragh Cavan converted a free as the hosts led 0-8 to 1-2 on 20 minutes.
Canavan converted a free as Tyrone moved forward. The game swung away from Monaghan eight minutes before the break.
A loose shot was collected by Tyrone keeper Niall Morgan. Morgan found Canavan in space behind the Monaghan defence, who raced down and blasted into the net.
Conor McCarthy responded with an important point to make it 1-9 to 1-3 on 29 minutes. McCarron and Canavan exchanged points. As did, McCurry and Ciaran McNulty.
Whereas, McCarron sent over a point as Tyrone led 1-11 to 1-6 at half-time.
Tyrone picked up where they left off after the restart. Kieran McGeary and Ciaran Daly registered two points inside the opening five minutes.
Conor McManus converts a free and Cathal Mc Shane responded as the sides exchanged points. McCarron and McManus reduced the gap before Canavan responded to make it a six point game.
Monaghan on the comeback trail
McManus showed his class with a left footed free making it a five point game. McCarron reduced it to four with 18 minutes to play.
Indeed, Canavan won and converted a home town free to make it 1-16 to 1-11 with 14 minutes remaining. Then Monaghan hope was lit bright.
Andrew Woods ran through the heart of the Tyrone defence, placed the ball to Killian Lavelle who palmed the ball into the net. Monaghan trailed by two.
Darragh Canavan sent over a free, but Monaghan brought it back to a one point game through a McManus from play and a mark.
However, that was as good as it got for the farney. Seven minutes were added-on. Alas, no Monaghan scores were tagged on. The hosts tagged on the scores and ran out 1-19 to 2-13 winners.
