Cavan’s Dr McKenna Cup campaign came to a conclusion after Tyrone scored a 15 points to 10 win in Kingspan Breffni.
Cavan were impressive at times, but spells late in either half showed the difference between the two sides as Tyrone won out by five points.
Gerard Smith, Oisin Brady opened Cavan’s account with Tyrone’s Rory Donnell responding on six minutes. Brandon Boylan and Killian Clarke moved Cavan four points to one ahead on nine minutes.
Tyrone then battled back, Darragh Canavan (2) and Richard Donnelly made it four points each on 19 minutes. Cathal McShane, Michael McKernan and Peter Og McCartin moving Tyrone three clear, five minutes before the break.
McShane added another point for Tyrone before Cian Madden responded with the final score of the half. Tyrone led eight points to five at half-time.
Darragh Canavan opened the second half with a Tyrone point. However three Oisin Brady points in-a-row plus a Raymond Galligan free made it a one point game on 53 minutes.
Cathal McShane and Oisin Brady traded points as Tyrone led 10 points to nine with 15 minutes remaining.
Tyrone though went up a gear in the final quarter, McShane, Canavan, McKernan, Liam Nugent, Niall Sluden and Matthew Donnelly all sent over scores.
Dara McVeety added a Cavan point but it was Tyrone’s day as they won out 15 points to 10.
