Truagh ended a 20-year wait for a Monaghan SFC final appearance following a 2-10 to 1-7 victory over Ballybay at St Tiernach’s Park in Clones today.
The result looked inconceivable at the first water break with Balllybay leading 1-5 to 0-1. Paul Finlay scored the game’s opening goal on three minutes.
Truagh completely dominated the second quarter and four answered points made it a three-point game at the half-time break with Ballybay leading 1-5 to 0-5.
The sides cancelled each other out in the third quarter before Paudie McKenna levelled the game after slotting over a point on 51 minutes.
Truagh subsequently moved two points clear when Aaron Mohan found the net with five minutes left before Adam Treanor added a second goal three minutes later.
Truagh finished with six points to spare and will now look to end Scotstown’s quest for two-in-a-row when they clash in this year’s Monaghan SFC final.
