Donaghmoyne bowed out of the Ulster IFC at the quarter-final stages following a 4-13 to 2-7 defeat to Steelstown Brian Og’s at Celtic Park.
The Monaghan men led 2-3 to 1-3 at the half-time break before a strong third quarter surge helped Steelstown to a 12-point victory.
Steelstown made a blistering start with Eoghan Bradley scoring the game’s first goal on one minute but seven minutes later, his effort was cancelled out by Ronan McDonald.
Donaghmoyne were awarded a penalty on 16 minutes and it was duly dispatched by Liam McDonald leaving them two points clear at the first water break.
The second quarter was a low-scoring affair and Donaghmoyne opened up a three-point lead at half-time after grabbing two of the next three scores.
Steelstown moved six points clear at the second water break after outscoring their opponents 2-6 to 0-3 during the third quarter; Cahir McMonagle accounted for both goals within six minutes of the restart .
Ben McCarron scored Steelstown’s fourth goal of the day from the penalty spot with eight minutes remaining and they kept the scoreboard ticking over in the closing stages to run out convincing winners.
