Serena Williams has announced that her retirement from tennis is close at hand, she confirmed the news via a first-person piece for Vogue magazine
Williams won her first singles match for more than a year at the National Bank Open in Toronto on Monday evening but says she plans to end her career.
She committed to playing at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati next week as well as the US Open later this month, and it appears that will be her final tournament.
If so, it will be her last chance to equal Margaret Court’s record; Williams has 23 Grand Slam titles to hear name, one shy of the current record.
