Sean McDermotts were crowned Monaghan JFC champions following a nine-point victory over Toome in this year’s decider at Ballybay today.
Sean McDermotts led 0-8 to 0-4 at the half-time break before a strong second half saw last year’s beaten finalists win 2-12 to 1-6 in the end.
Gary Larkin's men led 0-4 to 0-0 inside six minutes before William Woods opened Toome’s account on ten minutes making it a three-point game at the first water break.
The same margin separated the sides heading into first-half injury time before Adam O’Driscoll made it a four-point game by slotting over a point on the stroke of half-time.
Three minutes after the restart Patrick Kearns found the net and six minutes later Aaron McNally added another goal as Sean McDermotts opened up a ten-point gap.
On 42 minutes Frank Connolly replied with a goal for Toome who still found themselves seven points down at the second water break.
Sean McDermotts subsequently hit three of the last four scores in the final quarter and ran out convincing winners. In doing so, they avenged last year’s defeat to Aughnamullen.
