Scotstown retain Monaghan senior football title

Scotstown are Monaghan SFC champions for the sixth time in seven years following a 1-13 to 0-10 victory over Truagh at Clones.

The sides were level at half-time before Scotstown moved three points clear heading into injury time. A late goal subsequently embellished the scoreboard from Scotstown’s perspective.

Despite bearing the underdogs tag, Truagh showed no trepidation in the opening stages. Pascal Canavan’s men settled quicker and led four points to no score on ten minutes.

The sides cancelled each other out during the remainder of the first half and were deadlocked at seven points each at half-time.

Nine minutes after the restart, Truagh found themselves one point clear before enduring a lengthy barren spell lasting 19 minutes.

Colin McAree’s men capitalised by hitting five points on the trot which opened up a four-point gap with three minutes of normal time remaining.

A minute later, Gary Mohan replied with a point for Truagh only for Conor McCarthy to find the net three minutes into injury time sealing back-to-back titles for Scotstown.
