Reigning Monaghan senior football champions Scotstown suffered a surprise opening round defeat losing 1-12 to 1-10 away to Ballybay.
The game was an evenly contested affair throughout; Ballybay led 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time before the sides were tied at six points each four minutes after the restart.
On 35 minutes, Ballybay’s Christopher McGuinness found the net before Scotstown’s Rory Beggan registered their first goal two minutes later.

The hosts subsequently landed six of the last ten scores resulting in a two-point victory.
