Scotstown missed out on an Ulster senior club title following a 0-13 to 0-11 defeat to Glen in the decider at Athletic Grounds in Armagh.
Scotstown led by a solitary point midway through the second half, Glen dominated the concluding stages to claim a narrow victory.
David McCague’s men settled quickly. Scotstown led 0-2 to no score on seven minutes, Shane Carey and James Hamill on target.
Glenn eventually settled. Two pointed frees from Conor Glass saw the Derry champions restore parity within four minutes.
Conor McCarthy restored Scotstown's one-point cushion on 12 minutes. The All Star winner slotting over a spectacular long-range point.
Eight minutes later, Scotstown almost fell behind; Rory Beggan vacated the goals but recovered in time to repel a quick counter-attack. McCarthy subsequently cleared the loose ball.
Scotstown pushed two points clear on two further occasions. Each time, Eunan Mulholland made it a one-point game.
Kieran Hughes doubled Monaghan's advantage at the break with a delightful score on the stroke of half-time.
Hughes outmanoeuvred Jody McDermott before curling his shot over the bar from a tight angle. Scotstown led 0-7 to 0-5 at the interval.
Ryan Dougan levelled the game four minutes into the second half before Scotstown almost found the net.
Darren Hughes connected with Jason Carey’s dropping ball but punched it across the face of the goal.
The sides traded a point each before Scotstown goalkeeper Rory Beggan edged the Monaghan champions in front on 49 minutes.
Conor Glass restored Glen’s one-point cushion six minutes from time before finding another gear. Scores from Ciaran Faul and Jody McDermott gave the Derry champions a three-point lead two minutes into stoppage time.
60 seconds later Kieran Hughes registered Scotstown’s first score in 14 minutes as David McCague’s men fell short in the end.
