Scotstown have won the Greenfield Foods Monaghan Senior Football Final beating Ballybay 1-14 to seven points at Saint Tiernach’s Park in Clones.

Scotstown led by eight points to six at the break and emerged victorious after dominating the second-half.

It was Ballybay who settled fastest landing the first three scores with Tiernan McSkean, Christopher McGuinness and Paul Finlay on target.

Colin McAree’s side led by four points to two at the first water break but the second point from McGuinness’ transpired to be their final score from play in this contest.

Scotstown later drew level in the 28th minute before a point from Conor McCarthy and a 45-metre kick from Rory Beggan gave them a two-point lead at the interval.

Two points in the space of two minutes saw Scotstown stretch the lead to four points shortly after the restart.

A subsequent free from Paul Finlay reduced the margin to three points and ended a barren spell for Ballybay having failed to score for nearly half an hour.

Colin McAree’s side outscored their opponents by 1-4 to no score in the final stages with Conor McCarthy finding the net.

Scotstown finished the game with ten points to spare making it five county titles in six years.
