Scotstown claimed their second win of the campaign with a deserved four point victory over Latton on Sunday evening.
Scotstown were always on top and lead nine points to three at half-time thanks to three Conor McCarthy points and scores Orean Heafy, Shane Carey and Darren Hughes.
Rory Beggan added a 45 and a 60 metre free in the first half with Latton’s scores thanks to two points from former county player Eoin Duffy and his namesake Eoin Duffy.
Latton fought back in the second half with former county player Duffy scoring three points, but crucially Hughie McIllroy’s goal chance resulting in a point.
Scotstown found three second half scores to claim victory thanks to a Conor McCarthy point and a free and a point from Shane Carey. Aaron Mulligan added a point to see it finish Scotstown 0-12 Latton 0-4.
Earlier Carrickmacross opened their championship campaign with a 1-12 to eight point win over Castleblayney.
Carrickmacross led 1-7 to two points at half-time, Aaron Lynch landing an early goal to decide this game early on with an impressive opening day victory.
