Scotstown made it back-to-back Monaghan titles and eight in 10-years with victory over Clontibret.
Scotstown sealed a 1-10 to eight point victory in Clones with Jack McCarron 39th minute goal the telling difference. The defending champions having led five points to four at half-time.
Rory Beggan opened the scoring for Scotstown with Jack McCarron adding a second point on nine minutes. Darragh Hughes opened Clontibret’s account on 12 minutes, all three points were frees.
Scotstown captain Damien McArdle scored the first point from play of the game on 19 minutes. Killian Lavelle replying immediately. Francis Hughes levelled the game three points each four minutes before half-time.
Conor McCarthy restored Scotstown’s lead with Ryan McGuigan equalising in response. A second McCarron free saw Scotstown lead five points to four at half-time.
Just two minutes after the restart the sides had exchanged scores. Conor McManus equalising before Shane Carey responded. Another McCarron set piece moved Scotstown two points ahead.
Then it arrived, nine minutes into the second-half. Scotstown turned the ball over with Clontibret keeper Darran McDonnell caught out of goal, McCarron finding the empty net.
Remarkably it would some 13 minutes for Jack McDevitt to extended Scotstown’s lead, 1-8 to 0-5. A Conor McManus free was cancelled out by a Rory Beggan 45 kept Scotstown ahead.
Dessie Mone made it a five point game, but there was too much work and too little time for Clontibret to make in-roads. Shane Carey converted a 59th minute free to seal victory.
A late Conor McManus free rounded out the scoring, but there was no doubt it was Scotstown day as they claimed a 1-10 to eight point victory.
