Scotstown reached the Monaghan sfc semi-finals thanks to a 4-3 victory over Latton on penalties following an exciting encounter.
The defending champions came from behind to level the game at 12 points apiece at full-time. The sides were tied at 16 points each at the end of extra time.
Latton started better and led three points to no score inside four minutes. Darren Hughes opened Scotstown’s account 60 seconds later.
Shane Carey’s point on 19 minutes gave Scotstown the lead for the first time. Two minutes later Owen Duffy restored parity yet again.
The side’s traded two points each before Rory Beggan’s 29th minute point saw Scotstown lead nine points to eight at half-time.
Latton started the second-half impressively. Points from Owen Duffy, Tomas Connolly, Christopher Rice and Ryan Duffy gave them a four-point cushion six minutes from time.
Scotstown responded like true champions, three points from Conor McCarthy saw the defending champions draw level and force extra time.
McCarthy pushed Scotstown three points clear one minute into stoppage time. Christian Hughes made it a two-point game on the stroke of half-time in extra time.
Hughes gave Latton a one-point lead four minutes from time before Emmet Caulfield landed the equalizer right at the death.
A penalty shoot-out followed and Darren Hughes got the decisive score as Scotstown won 4-3 and look forward to a semi-final clash with Inniskeen on Sunday, October second.
