Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Florida but Shane Lowry survives.
McIlroy faced an uphill when the delayed second-round action commenced. He needed to pick up four shots from his final eight holes; a task which proved elusive.
The County Down man signed off with a one-over-par round of 73 and exited the competition on a disappointing overall score of five-over.
Seamus Power suffered the same fate; the Waterford man was one shot further back on six-over-par.
Meanwhile, an impressive resurgence saw Shane Lowry make the cut. He bounced back from a horrendous opening round of 77 by shooting 69 on day two.
The Offaly man carded an impressive eagle on the 11th hole as well as birdies on the first, second, seventh, eighth, 12th and 16th holes.
Lowry also carded five bogeys on the fourth, fifth, tenth, 13th, 14th but will still be satisfied with his overall display.
Ben Griffin was the clubhouse leader on six under after a one-under-par round of 71 but Svensson overtook him in Saturday's early action.
