Cavan captain Raymond Galligan has emerged as a surprise candidate for the Cavan senior football manager’s job.
The Anglo-Celt report; Galligan, Micheál McDermott and Jason O’Reilly have all received nominations for the vacant Cavan senior team manager’s position.
The deadline for nominations from the clubs was last July 23rd. The trio have been nominated by their home clubs Lacken, Shercock and Belturbet.
Mickey Graham stepped down as Cavan manager two weeks ago. With, the Cavan county board moving quickly to appoint a successor.
Whereas, 36-year-old Galligan, the current Cavan captain and goalkeeper has emerged as a surprise candidate. The Lacken man has no management experience but captained Cavan to the 2020 Ulster title.
The Anglo-Celt also quotes Cavan chairman Kieran Callaghan, “We will now appoint a sub-committee to advance the process of appointing a new senior team manager.”
While it also believed the sub-committee will also have the option of looking outside the county for a new manager.
The Cavan senior footballers will play in division of the Allianz League in 2024. The first time since 2020 that Cavan have played at this grade.
Elsewhere, Cavan appointed Larry Reilly as new U20 manager. Replacing the outgoing Damien Donohoe, earlier this month.
