Ramor United claimed a first county title in five years with a 1-15 to 0-14 victory over Gowna in the Cavan SFC final at Kingspan Breffni Park.
Ramor United laid a solid foundation for victory in the opening half. The Virginia men led 1-10 to 0-8 at half-time before eventually finishing with four points to spare.
Ray Cole’s men made an explosive start leading 1-3 to no score inside the opening five minutes; James Brady scoring the game’s opening goal on four minutes.
Points from Cian Madden and Robbie Fitzpatrick subsequently made it a four-point game before Ramor United doubled the margin at the first water break by hitting four scores on the trot.
Gowna showed more urgency after the restart grabbing six of the next nine scores but the lough shore men still found themselves five points down at half-time.
Five minutes into the second half, a James Brady point gave Ramor United a six-point cushion before points from Oisin Pierson and Conor Madden brought the margin back to four points.
Sean McEvoy subsequently replied with a point for Ramor United before Conor Casey reciprocated at the other end making it a four-point game at the three-quarter mark.
Gowna rallied again and a Cian Madden point left a goal between them with a minute of normal time remaining before James Brady landed the insurance score in the first minute of injury time.
