At the end of the yellow brick road it comes down to 70 minutes to stay-up or go down.
Mayo’s 20-year top flight stay came to an end two-years-ago, on Sunday one of the GAA heavy weights shall stand and one shall fall.
On form this it should be Monaghan who go down. Without Conor McManus at his best, Monaghan are a blunt instrument. McManus offers so much with the ball and from dead balls it’s hard to manage him.
Dublin started the league appallingly. Four defeats from four and odds-on for relegation. However victory over Tyrone and Donegal has changed things.
The manner of the victories rather than the results put Dessie Farrell’s men as favourites for this one.
Although the game is in Clones and Monaghan have been here before. The end of the 2021 season and the last gasp Conor McCarthy extra-time winner that kept them up.
It may come down to something like that again. Dublin will start fast like in their old fashioned days of winning six All-Ireland’s in a row.
The wins over Tyrone and Donegal have them set them up for a quick win in Clones. That would set Farrell up for another Leinster title and a shot at the All-Ireland.
Monaghan have it all to do, but seeing to the Dubs early-on could be the key.
Verdict: Dublin to win this one, Monaghan to go down.
