A late surge saw Cavan score a 2-14 to 1-10 victory over Down in Allianz football league division three at Kingspan Breffni.
Just two points separated the sides six minutes from time before two goals from Patrick Lynch saw Cavan win comfortably.
Down made a better start, leading 1-1 to 0-2 on 15 minutes. Miceal Rooney found the net three minutes in.
Cavan responded impressively and restored parity by half-time. Points from Dara McVeety, Patrick Lynch and Cian Madden made it 1-2 to 0-5.
Down were reduced to 14 men for the second half. Anthony Doherty was shown a red card for his involvement in a half-time scuffle.
Cavan started the second half with urgency. Lynch gave them a three-point buffer within six minutes of the restart.
Down's Pat Havern made it a one-point game on 50 minutes but two minutes later Gearoid McKiernan restored Cavan's three-point cushion.
Down’s Donnacha McAleece brought it back to a two-point game six minutes from time before Lynch’s two late goals resulted in a seven-point win for Cavan.
