The Olympic future of Boxing is once again in the spotlight following the latest warning from the International Olympic Commitee (IOC).
Due to a dispute over how the sport’s governing body (AIBA) is ran; the IOC has organised the qualifying tournament for the Tokyo and Paris games.
However, the IOC are adamant they will not repeat the process for the Los Angeles games in 2028. The IOC are urging national federations to form a new governing body.
World Boxing formed in April 2023 are seeking recognition from the IOC as the sports governing body. The Irish athetic boxing assocation voted not to join World Boxing in August last year.
Boxing is Ireland’s most successful Olympic sport, delivering 18 of the country’s 35 medals. Including three gold medals.
