Monaghan’s winless run in Allianz football league division one continues following a 3-14 to 1-12 defeat at the hands of Kerry in Iniskeen.
The Farney men trailed 0-7 to 0-4 at the half-time break before a dominant second-half display saw the visitors record a convincing victory.
The opening stages were evenly contested with the sides deadlocked at three points each on 22 minutes; Kieran Hughes, Kieran Duffy and Conor McManus were on target for Monaghan.
Two minutes later, a Dessie Ward point edged Monaghan in front before four points on the trot gave Kerry a three-point buffer at the break.
David Clifford was the main protagonist as Kerry moved nine points clear within six minutes of the restart; he bagged two quick-fire goals on 38 and 44 minutes.
16 minutes later, Monaghan’s task became more difficult as Sean O’Shea scored Kerry’s third goal. Seamus McEnaney’s side were now 13 points down.
Conor McManus registered a penalty goal one minute from time before a hat-trick of late Monaghan points left eight points between them at full-time.
The Farney men are now second from bottom in the division one table while the Kingdom are sitting pretty on top.
