The Monaghan U20’s claimed the bragging rights in the Northern Sound derby beating Cavan 1-11 to 0-13 at Kingspan Breffni.
The sides were level six minutes from time before the visitors landed two of the last three scores to reach the Ulster semi-finals.
Cavan led 0-4 to 0-0 inside eight minutes; Daire Madden (two), Darragh Lovett and Shane Tynan on target for the hosts.
Stephen Mooney got Monaghan off the mark on ten minutes and 12 minutes later his penalty goal levelled the game.
Cavan subsequently regained control of the game and three of the next four scores saw them lead 0-9 to 1-4 at half-time.
The Breffni held on to the lead until the 53rd minute when Ryan Duffy brought Monaghan level.
Monaghan finished the game impressively and points from Michael Hamill and Mooney gave the visitors a two-point cushion five minutes from time.
Madden replied for Cavan four minutes later but an equaliser proved elusive as Monaghan prevailed by the smallest of margins.
Paul Curran’s men can look forward to an Ulster semi-final meeting with Down on Wednesday April 12th. The Mourne men defeated Tyrone 2-9 to 1-8.
