It is a break this coming weekend (31st/1st) in the Monaghan senior football championship with three rounds played.
With two rounds remaining and still plenty to play for in groups. Group one is currently headed by defending champions Scotstown who have two wins from two with a bye last weekend.
They are joined on four points by Corduff who claimed their second win in three outings with a victory over Aughnamullen. That was a result that pleased manager Seamus McEnaney who spoke to Fergal Monaghan.
Aughnamullen are propping up the table awaiting their first win. Manager Lee Conlon admitted it was a tough loss to take.
The other fixture in the group saw Ballybay and Cremartin draw eight points apiece in their local derby.
Ensuring they both can still harbour strong thoughts of making the knockout stages. Pearse Brothers manager Ryan Mellon shared his thoughts with Fergal Monaghan.
It was a first point picked up by Cremartin who suffered defeat to Corduff in round one and had a bye in Round two. Manager, Mathew Lambe admitted it was hard to know the value of the draw; but at least they are still in the championship.
Group Two Round-Up
Group 2 has Clontibret on top, who’ve secured their place in the knockout stages, making three wins from three with a victory over Donaghmoyne in round three.
Whereas, member of the management team Neil Coulter acknowledged to Fergal Monaghan that their first target had be achieved.
For Donaghmoyne it has been a tough campaign so far with a one point loss to Killanny in round one. There was a bye in round two and then that defeat to Clontibret.
Derek Walsh is manager of the Fontenoy side and he spoke to Fergal Monaghan
As noted Killanny did claim their first win with a victory over Donaghmoyne and while they did lose to Clontibret in round 2, they bounced back with a 1 point victory over Latton to produce one of the surprise results of the weekend and to sit 2nd in the table with the real possibility of making the knockout stages. Manager John Kennedy was understandably delighted with their performance
It was the opposite for Latton manager David Lennon who’s side have 1 point on the board following their round 2 draw with Inniskeen having had a bye on the opening weekend
It is a break this coming weekend in the championship with plenty still to play for when it returns on September 7th.
