Cork started the game brightly with a Brian O Driscoll wide, quickly followed by a point from Cathal O’Mahoney.
Six minutes elapsed before the next score arrived. Referee Fergal Kelly pointed to the spot and Jack McCarron made no mistake with the penalty.
Chris Og Jones replied with a point on 10 minutes, before Ciaran McNulty got the hosts first point of the game after 15 minutes.
The next score came when Stephen O’Hanlon found the back of the Cork net. Monaghan had put themselves in a five point lead after 17 minutes.
Sean Jones quickly that extended the lead with a two pointer. Cork now appeared under serious pressure from the Monaghan attack against a strong wind, were further behind as David Garland raised the white flag for Monaghan.
Sean McDonnell did offer his defence a short reprieve with a point for Cork, not before Ryan Wylie found the net after 25 minutes. Monaghan now in a commanding 10 point lead.
Paul Walsh and Jack McCarron traded scores, before, Cork’s Mark Cronin free on 33 minutes brought first-half scoring to an end. Monaghan leading 3-5 to five points.
Monaghan started the second-half brightly. Rory Beggan making his way up field to raise the orange flag with a two pointer.
Jack McCarron kept the scoreboard ticking with a 40th minutes point. Moving Monaghan into a 12 point lead.
Cork now backed by the wind, were starting to show signs of life with a two pointer from Mark Cronin. Cathal O’Mahony notched another point for Cork, before Rory Beggan showed his accuracy with another two pointer from a free.
With 49 minutes played Monaghan appeared to be controlling proceedings. Another Beggan free, followed by David Garland’s point from play pushed Monaghan into a 3-12 to eight point lead after 54 minutes.
Eoghan McSweeney swung a free over for Cork before the visitors were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Mark Cronin to score from the penalty spot reducing the deficit to eight points.
Cork now with the wind in their sales scored a point a minute later through Connor Cahalane. A seven point game with nine minutes remaining.
Mark Cronin scored another free for Cork, before Connor McCarthy broke the Cork momentum with a Monaghan point. Their first in 11 minutes of play.
Ciaran McNulty was next to add to Monaghan’s tally with a point, before an incident where he receive his second yellow, reducing the visitors to 14 players.
Chris Og Jones added a free before Mark Cronin added a two pointer bringing his personal tally for the day to 1-10.
With the six added minutes up at the end of the second-half; up stepped Rory Beggan to nail his third two pointer of the afternoon.

Cork make the long trip home, when they must gather themselves ahead of next Saturday evenings clash with Roscommon.
