Having drawn with the All Ireland champions Tyrone in the opening round of the Division 1 league, the quality of opposition for Monaghan remains high as they welcome the 2021 all Ireland Finalists Mayo to St Tiernachs Park Clones on Sunday at 2pm. It will be a 5th outing for the team from the start of the year and the one minor concern the side would have is that while goal chances have been created only one has been taken with Dessie Ward hitting the back of the net in the Dr. Mc Kenna cup final win over Donegal. Last Sunday in O' Neills Healy park Omagh, Monaghan again put together a number of goal chances but failed to convert any of them and goal keeper Rory Beggan who finished with 3 points one of those from play admitted it is something they will have to work on ahead of the arrival of Mayo on Sunday
The visitors could be planning without forward Tommy Conroy for that encounter after he sustained a knee injury while playing for NUIG in the Sigerson Cup yesterday. The extent of the injury is not yet known.
