A superb second-half display wasn't enough as Monaghan fell short.

Down held off a second half rally from Monaghan to claim the Ulster ladies IFC crown with a 2-9 to 0-14 victory at Clones.

Down led 0-5 to 0-3 inside 11 minutes. Sarah Tierney, Eabha Sherry and Leanne Maguire on target for Monaghan.

Eimear Fitzpatrick found the net 60 seconds later helping Down to a seven-point buffer at the break; 1-8 to 0-4.

Down’s Niamh King found the net within a minute of the restart. Monaghan responded impressively with seven points on the trot.

Chloe McBride and Eabha Sherry landed two scores each with Sarah Tierney, Jayne Drury and Lauren Garland also on target.

Natasha Ferris restored Monaghan’s four-point cushion six minutes from time before Monaghan’s Chloe McBride replied with three unanswered points.

An equaliser proved elusive however as Monaghan missed out on a provincial title by the smallest of margins.
