Monaghan are through to the 2020 Electric Ireland Ulster minor football final following a three-point win over Fermanagh at Kingspan Breffni Park. The Farney men led 2-4 to 1-6 at half-time before winning out 3-10 to 2-10. Monaghan made a blistering start to the game and led 2-1 to 0-2 as early as the seventh minute with Michael Hamill and James Slevin finding the net.
Fermanagh subsequently got into their stride, a goal from Sean Conlon helped reduce the gap to a single point at the first water break. Stephen Mooney missed a penalty in the 28th minute but Monaghan still led by a single-point at half-time.
Six minutes after the resumption, Fermanagh got their noses in front when a goal from Justy McDade saw them lead by the smallest of margins. The reigning champions responded in style and four points on the trot gave them a three-point buffer at the second water break. Fermanagh showed great urgency after the restart hitting four points on the trot to lead by a solitary point with a minute of normal time remaining.
Monaghan finished in style and Mark Counihan’s side ran out three-point winners thanks to an injury-time goal and point from Dylan O’Reilly and Cian Conlan respectively.
