The Monaghan ladies footballers missed out on an TG4 All-Ireland intermediate semi-finals after a 5-6 to 0-8 defeat at the hands of Antrim at Belfast.
The result was never in doubt. Antrim were nine points clear at the break and finished the game with 13 points to spare.
Antrim made a blistering start and led 2-2 to no score 18 minutes in. Orlaith Prenter and Grainne McLaughlin with the goals.
Sarah O’Neill subsequently added a third goal helping Antrim lead 3-3 to 0-3 at half-time. Jodie McQuillan, Chloe McBride and Shauna Coyle on target for Monaghan in stoppage time.
Monaghan started the second half impressively. Three successive points saw the Farney women make it a seven-point game on 38 minutes.
Antrim raised the intensity thereafter. Maria O’Neill and Prenter added a goal each helping the Saffrons to a convincing victory.
Antrim will face Clare in the semi-finals. Clare having powered past Westmeath in their quarter-final. Meanwhile, Wexford will now meet Kildare in the semi-finals. Wexford pipped Leitrim, while Kildare got the better of Tyrone in their quarter-final.
