Monaghan got their first victory of the Lidl Ladies National Football League as they recorded a 2-11 to 1-13 win over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.
It was a tight contest overall and Monaghan led 2-2 to five points at half-time.
The sides were deadlocked at 1-1 to four points at the end of the first quarter with Lauren McEnaney scoring the game’s opening goal in the 18th minute.
Six minutes later she scored her second helping Monaghan to a three-point cushion at the break.
Armagh showed incredible urgency after the restart and they moved a point clear in front in the 38th minute when Aoife McCoy found the net.
Monaghan refused to give in however and parity was restored at the second water break with the sides deadlocked at 1-9 to 2-6.
There was a nail biting finish to the game with the team’s level on a further three occasions in the last quarter before Casey Treanor bagged the winning score in the 70th minute.
