Monaghan reached the division two semi-finals in the Lidl ladies football league today following a 5-15 to 1-11 win over Tyrone at Clones.
Most of the damage was done at half-time with Monaghan leading 4-10 to three points at the half-time.
The Farney women began the game in explosive fashion and led 2-4 to a point after just eight minutes with Casey Treanor and Shauna Coyle both finding the net.
Ciaran Murphy’s side then slotted over three more unanswered points giving them a 12 point buffer at the first water break.
Casey Treanor scored Monaghan’s third goal in the 21st minute, before Ellen McCarron registered their fourth six minutes later as they were 19 points clear at the break.
Tyrone outscored Monaghan four points to three in the next quarter but still trailed by 18 points at the second water break.
Laura McEnaney then stretched their lead to 21 points after the second water break as she bagged a fifth goal for the hosts.
Chloe McCaffrey registered a late goal for Tyrone but Monaghan still had 16 points to spare at full-time.
