The Monaghan hurlers suffered a second straight Nickey Rackard Cup defeat going down 4-17 to 1-16 to Roscommon at Inniskeen.
The first-half was a tight affair. The hosts were two points at the break; 1-9 to 0-10.
Paddy Fallon landed five points for Roscommon while Cian Murray accounted for the goal. Niall Arthur registered eight first-half points for the Farney men.
Conor Mulry’s goal doubled Roscommon’s advantage two minutes into the second half. 16 minutes later Mulry found the net again as the hosts moved ten points clear.
Murray registered his second goal nine minutes from time as Monaghan suffered a heavy defeat.
It's a second defeat in-a-row for the Monaghan hurlers, having lost out to Mayo last weekend.
