The Monaghan hurlers’ winning start to Allianz hurling league division 3A has ended following a 5-25 to 0-13 loss to Mayo at Castlebar.
Most of the damage was done in the first half as Monaghan found themselves trailing 4-14 to 0-7.
Jason Coyne Eoin Delaney, Sean Kenny and Adrian Philips with a goal each for Mayo. Monaghan’s Niall Garland and Fergal Rafter collectively amassed seven points.
Daniel Huane registered Mayo’s fifth goal within four minutes of the restart; 60 seconds later Cormac Philips pushed them 21 points clear.
The sides cancelled each other out thereafter resulting in a heavy defeat for the visitors.
