Monaghan recorded a 1-21 to 14 point victory over Fermanagh in today’s Ulster Senior Football Quarter-Final at Clones.
The farney men laid the foundation for a convincing win in the first half leading 1-11 to seven points at the halfway stage.
Monaghan made an explosive start and led 1-4 to three at the first water break with Jack McCarron finding the net in the 17th minute.
Dessie Ward and Darragh McGurn traded a point each after the restart before Monaghan registered four of the next five scores to lead by seven points.
The sides cancelled each other out during the remainder of the half resulting in a seven-point buffer for Monaghan at half-time.
Nine minutes after the resumption, Karl O’Connell slotted over a point for Monaghan putting nine points between the sides.
Fermanagh subsequently hit three points on the trot but Monaghan responded in style and restored their seven point cushion at the second water break.
David McCague’s side began the final quarter with great urgency and a point each from Conor McManus, Colin Walshe, Killian Lavelle and Conor Boyle opened up an 11-point gap.
Fermanagh accounted for two of the last three points but Monaghan still ran out convincing winners and will play either Armagh or Antrim on Saturday, 17th July.
