Monaghan picked up their first point of the All-Ireland series after their meeting with Louth ended 2-10 apiece at Clones.
Louth were five points clear at the break before a second-half rally saw the Farney men salvage a draw.
The visitors led 0-3 to 0-2 on 18 minutes. Joel Wilson and Kieran Duffy accounting for Monaghan’s first two scores.
The visitors opened up a six-point lead on 20 minutes. Craig Lennon found the net as Ger Brennan’s men led 1-3 to 0-2.
Monaghan responded emphatically. Conor McCarthy scored a delightful goal and suddenly it was back to a one-point game.
Sam Mulroy gave Louth a three-point cushion on 32 minutes. Jack McCarron replied for the hosts within two minutes.
Louth opened up a five-point gap on the stroke of half-time. Conor Grimes found the net as the visitors led 2-5 to 1-3.
Monaghan started the second half in explosive fashion. Successive scores from Micheal Bannigan, Gary Mohan and Ryan O’Toole made it a two-point game.
Louth soon recovered momentum. Mulroy restored the visitors’ five-point cushion on 50 minutes.
A real turning point came on the hour mark. Bannigan found the net and suddenly, it was only a one-point game.
Conor McManus levelled the game on 63 minutes before Rory Beggan’s pointed free gave Monaghan the lead five minutes from time.
Mulroy brought Louth level two minutes later. Neither side could engineer a winning score and had to settle for a draw.
