Monaghan: 2-29 Westmeath: 2-21

Monaghan made it back-to-back Allianz League wins with an eight point victory over Westmeath.

This Division 2 encounter played at a sunny St. Tiernachs Park, Clones was the ideal shop window for what the rules commission want to bring to Gaelic football.

High fielding with massive contests around the midfield; speedy inter-change of forward play, kick passes that unlocked defences, a range of scorers and long distance shooting.

Whereas, The visitors replied with a two pointer from the impressive Luke Loughlin to see the side’s level five points each in the opening quarter.

Four further points including a two pointer from Garland put the hosts ahead again. However, Westmeath spurned the first of a number of goal chances as Luke Loughlin nipped in on a short kick out from Rory Beggan but blazed his effort wide of the upright.
