Monaghan County have board have recorded a surplus of over €95,000 for 2021 in figures announced at their county convention on Thursday night. The highly detailed financial report showed an increased income from 2020, primilarly due to rental income from the HSE using the Centre of excelllence as a Covid test centre while there was a marked decrease in expenditure with team expenses dropping by 6% to 423,000 euro. Held in the Four Seasons hotel with a reduced number of delegates the county executive was returned for the coming year unopposed while motions in regards to the changing of the U17 age group back to U18 and changes to what can be deemed a players first club were robustly debated and carried by the delegates and will now go forward to Croke Park for confirmation before returning back to the executive to be acted upon. The Highs and lows of the year were noted by chairman Declan Flannagan in his address to the convention with Monaghan team sponsor Phil Traynor and U20 captain Brendan Og Duffy been fondly remembered following their sudden passing earlier in the year. The Covid breach by the senior team at the start of 2021 was also noted with Declan remarking that it was embarrassing for all involved but wondered how many other counties could have been caught if the camera had have visited them
The championship teams at Senior, Intermediate and Junior grade were also announced while Kieran Hughes was named as senior player, David Garland intermediate player and Niall Kearns the junior player of the year. Mark Treanor was senior hurler with Edel Corrigan the ladies footballer of the year. Ryan Mc Anespie was the Club Monaghan player of the year, with Clontibret the club of the year.
