The Railway cup competition makes a return with the fixtures in Croke Park

All-Ireland champions Armagh have nine players included in the Ulster panel for this weekend’s inter-pro series at Croke Park.

The Northern Sound region is set to be represented by Monaghan's Barry McBennett and Jason Irwin and they will be joined by Padraig Faulkner, Gerry Smith and Jason McLoughlin from Cavan.

Indeed, the matches are being used to trial several potentially massive rule changes to Gaelic football.

The Leinster squad contains the likes of Dublin’s multiple All-Ireland-winners Stephen Cluxton, James McCarthy and Ciaran Kilkenny. Eight of the Connacht panel are taken from All-Ireland finalists Galway and there’s also representation from London and New York.

Whereas, Kerry’s Tadhg Morley, Killian Spillane and Diarmuid O’Connor are included in the Munster panel.

Among the rules being trialled are a ban on back passes to goalkeepers, unless they’re in their own large rectangle or the opposition half.

While he’s not involved this weekend, Monaghan keeper Rory Beggan believes the change will be positive.
