Louth boss Ger Brennan has claimed Monaghan as an example to Louth ahead of their All-Ireland championship meeting.
It was a first championship victory for Louth over Meath in 49-years as goals from Bevan Duffy and two from Craig Lennon saw Louth to victory. Ger Brennan’s side quickly becoming the surprise package of this year’s championship.
“Monaghan, they will be gunning now, they know, they need a result” Brennan told LMFM sport. “Monaghan are great example to Louth”.
“I’ve regularly referenced Monaghan as a county with half the population of Louth, getting to an All-Ireland semi-final last year and that’s something Louth should be aspiring to”.
“I’m really looking forward to meeting them” added Brennan.
Brennan’s side stunned Meath scoring the 10-point victory, matching the score difference Kerry beat Monaghan last weekend. Louth following up their strong Leinster final performance against Dublin with victory.
“One swallow doesn’t make a summer” explained Brennan. “The Dublin performance will count for very little if we can back it up today. Thankfully we backed it up, but another job to do next week”.
Monaghan host Louth in Clones this Sunday June second in round two of the championship. The game is live on Northern Sound with throw-in at 3:30pm.
