Monaghan take their 2023 championship Clones bow as Clare arrive needing victory.
The hosts three championship games were all away trips. The ulster championship meetings with Tyrone and Derry in Healy Park.
While, Vinny Correy’s side collected a share of the spoils against Ulster champions Derry last weekend. An important result, having been well beaten in the Ulster championship by the same opposition.
However, Correy’s side showed more aggression and determination in Celtic Park. A share of the spoils was the better result for Monaghan as Derry travel to Donegal.
Meanwhile, visitors Clare have to win on Sunday. A defeat would almost certainly eliminate Clare as they will lose out to Donegal on head-to-head. Clare boss Colm Collins put the Donegal defeat down to a second-half “capitulation”.
Corey has made one change to the Monaghan side which started last Saturday. Jack McCarron comes in for Dessie Ward. McCarron was named to start last week with his place going to Shane Carey.
Bannigan will be key to Monaghan’s success again. His influence from centre-half-forward is a key element of Monaghan’s attack.
While Gary Mohan and Karl Gallagher will look to build on last week’s impressive performances. A win would see Monaghan advance to the knock-out stage, but Clare cannot afford to lose.
