Leona Maguire marked her maiden day playing in the Solheim Cup with a win. Playing alongisde England's Mel Reid they beat America's Jessica and Nelly Korda in the opening foursomes.
The European pair led by two before Jessica Korda’s birdie on 13 brought it back to a one hole game. Maguire and Reid held on however for the victory.
Maguire and Reid’s victory was a great start for the European team as they 3.5 to 0.5 after the opening foursomes.
Charley Hull and Emily Kristine Pedersen recovered from two down with four to play to beat Lexi Thompson and Brittany Altomare on the last.
Earlier, Europe had drawn first blood when AIG Women's Open champion Anna Nordqvist and Finnish rookie Matilda Castren combined to defeat Danielle Kang and Austin Ernst by one hole in the opening foursomes match at Inverness Club.
