Limerick surged to a fourth All-Ireland title-in-a-row with a sizzling second-half performance over Kilkenny.
The treaty men won out 30 points to 2-15 at Croke Park, having struck 21 points in the second-half. The Leinster champions had led from captain Eoin Cody’s 10th minute goal to the 48th minute.
Cody grabbed first goal chance of the game on 10 minutes to fire the Cars 1-1 to 0-2 ahead. Kilkenny would go onto lead 1-9 to 0-9 at half-time.
However, the Munster champions sealed the All-Ireland title, like they had the whole championship season with a massive comeback.
Diarmaid Byrnes sent over two free’s early in the second-half to make it a one-point game.
The game looked alive when Paddy Deegan’s rasping shot busting the Limerick net on 41 minutes. Making the game 2-10 to 11 points.
However, that was the best it got for the Cats as they were mauled by the Limerick side gunning for four-in-a-row.
A hat-trick of frees from Byrnes along with points from Aaron Gillane (free) and Darragh O’Donovan had Limerick in control.
TJ Reid’s free and John Donnelly point made it a three-point game. Limerick, then outscored Kilkenny nine points to two in the closing stages for a dominate Limerick victory.
This, Limerick team joins the Cork team of 1941-1944 and the Kilkenny side of 2006-2009 in securing a four-in-a-row success of Liam MacCarthy Cups.
