Leona Maguire is for today’s semi-finals at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match Play in Las Vegas.
The Cavan woman entered the competition as seventh seed, held off American Lindsey Weaver-Wright 3 and 2 to improve to 5-0.
However, Maguire will face Ayaka Furue of Japan. Furue also had a 5-0 after a 2-and-1 victory over third-seeded Celine Boutier of France.
“It was a bit back and forth, I was two down early, I chipped in for an eagle on seven” explained Maguire. “Lynsey’s a gutsy competitor and its plan tough out there”.
“Really happy to get through 36 holes today” said Maguire. “It’s nice to be in the semi-final. Played some really solid golf today".
“A little scrappy maybe this afternoon” added Maguire, but knew it was going to be a battle out there and it was just a case of staying patient. Yeah, did enough to make it to tomorrow.”
In the other semi-final Sunday morning, Linn Grant of Sweden will face Pajaree Anannarukarn of Thailand.
Grant beat Albane Valenzuela of Switzerland 3 and 1, and Anannarukarn edged Carlota Ciganda of Spain 3 and 2.
Maguire faces Ayaka Fure’s in her LPGA Match Play semi-final with tee-off set at 4:30pm Irish time – 8:30pm local time.
