Leanne Kiernan will miss the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup play-off after sustaining an ankle injury at the weekend.
The Cavan native went off during the second half of Liverpool's Women's Super League win over Chelsea before a subsequent scan revealed she faces a long stint on the sidelines.
Liverpool have confirmed that Kiernan may need surgery which could rule her out of action for several months.
Kiernan was involved as Ireland qualified for the World Cup play-offs; her most recent appearance came as a substitute in the win over Slovakia.
Vera Pauw’s side will face either Austria or Scotland in the play-off game on Tuesday, 11th October.
She'll also miss the first months of Liverpool's WSL campaign which got off to the perfect start with a shock opening weekend win over the reigning champions.
Kiernan was named Player of the Year as the Reds secured promotion to the top-flight last season.
