Lacken made a winning start to the Cavan senior football championship beating Lavey 1-11 to 0-13 at St. Matthew’s Park.
Lacken made the better start and led 0-5 to 0-1 at the first water break before Lavey’s Shane Tierney reduced the margin to a single point on 29 minutes.
Thomas Galligan replied with a point for Lacken two minutes into injury time as Mickey O’Connor’s side led 0-7 to 0-5 at half-time.
Lavey dominated the third quarter and Tierney’s point just before the second water break move gave them a one-point lead.
Conor Finnegan’s goal ten minutes from time saw Lacken move three points clear. Lavey registered three of the last four scores, Kevin McDonnell’s men still lost by the smallest of margins.
