Killanny claimed a maiden Monaghan intermediate football championship title beating Carrickmacross 0-14 to 0-11 after extra-time at Inniskeen.
Killanny were two points down midway through the second-half, before fighting back to make it eight apiece at full-time. The South Monaghan side found another gear in extra-time to claim a three-point victory.
The sides were tied, four points each on 23 minutes, before points from Jack McKeown and Stephen O’Hanlon saw Carrickmacross lead 0-6 to 0-4 at half-time.
Daniel Leegan restored parity within three minutes of the restart. 16 minutes later, Aaron Lynch restored Carrickmacross’ two-point cushion. Killanny were resilient however. Scores from Gavin Flanagan and Kyle Connolly restored parity and forced extra-time.
The sides were level again 13 minutes into extra-time. 60 seconds later, Killanny led for the first time when Conaill Marry registered a score.
Mark Grimes, Dean Connolly and Eddie Walsh followed up with a point each. Suddenly, Killanny were four points clear two minutes from time.
Carrickmacross’ Caolan Martin replied with a late consolation score but Killanny held on for a narrow victory.
