Kildare were crowned inaugural All-Ireland minor football Tier 2 champions beating Cavan by five points.
Kildare scored a 2-12 to 1-10 win over Cavan at Pairc Tailteann in Navan. Second-half goals from Harry Donnelly and Ronan Kelly saw Kildare land the Paul McGirr Cup.
Cavan’s top scorer Nathan Quigley (1-3) landed an 18th minute goal. Ryan Nwaneri the provider for Quigley who rattled to the net.
However, Kildare’s Dylan O’Dwyer and Austin Donegan (2) sent over the last three points of the half as the sides went it all square 0-7 to 1-4.
Harry Donnelly put Kildare ahead with a goal midway through the second-half. A lead Kildare would keep to the conclusion.
Odhran Madden made it a one point game with 10 minutes remaining. However, a Finn Dowling point and Ronan Kelly’s goal two minutes from sealed the victory for the Kildare minor team.
