A member of the Irish athletics team has tested positive for COVID-19 on their return home from the European Indoor Championships.
Darragh McElihnney had tested positive for Covid-19 when arriving in Poland last week and was unable to compete, he was replaced by Brian Fay.
Athletics Ireland say the positive sample was detected following PCR testing of the team this morning and that all close contacts of the affected athlete are now isolating for a period of ten days.
While the entire British squad and support staff are self-isolating for a period of 10 days reports the inside the games website.
The site reports a number of teams have reported team members returning positive Covid-19 tests since the championship completed with four Ukrainian athlete’s still isolating in Poland.
Two of the Ukrainian women who ran in the 4x400 metres relay, European 400m hurdles silver medallist Anna Ryzhykova and Katerina Klymyuk, and reserve relay member Alina Lohvynenko are understood to have tested positive on Sunday evening and again the next morning.
